About Me

After receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree from Northwestern University School of Medicine in 1967, Dr. Hefner was selected to serve a one-year rotating surgical internship at the Cleveland Clinic, where he also served his residency in Ophthalmology from 1968 to 1971. Having demonstrated excellence in all academic and clinical areas, the doctor was granted his Board Certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1973.

Following a two-year tour of duty in the United States Naval Reserve Medical Corps, where he served as a Lieutenant Commander and Ophthalmologist at the Naval Hospital in Charleston, Dr. Hefner returned to the St. Charles area to open his private practice.

Deeply committed to bringing his patients the most effective medical and surgical procedures available, Dr. Hefner routinely pursues continuing medical education programs as an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology; American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons; Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists; and the Chicago Ophthalmological Society. He is frequently invited to speak to local community groups about eye health.

Making their home in St. Charles, the doctor and his wife, Jean, enjoy spending time with family and friends
